The Hyundai i30, with its fine choice of engines, cost-effective performance levels and host of safety features, is a very good option for busy families and business users alike.
The entry-level S-grade i30 rides on 15-inch alloy wheels and sports a smart rear spoiler that contributes to the car’s rakish profile. Thanks to a five-door body, access to the vehicle is as simple as can be for rear-row travellers. There’s room inside for four adults, or a young family of five, to be conveyed in comfort. An expansive tailgate aperture ensures that access to the car’s 380-litre boot is straightforward, and with rear seats folded, cargo capacity rises to a rather useful 1,301 litres.
S trims are typically installed with a 1.0-litre 118bhp petrol engine that returns up to 48.7mpg and produces CO2 emissions from 123g/km. Models supplied with a 1.6-litre 108bhp diesel unit return as much as 60.1mpg and produce emissions as low as 110g/km. The exciting i30 N hot hatch version, meanwhile, is powered by a 2.0-litre 247bhp petrol engine which delivers 353Nm of torque and races from 0-60mph in a little over six seconds, going on to a top speed of 155mph.
Helping to achieve its impressive economy is the Hyundai i30’s stop/start system, which cut the engine while you’re idling to reduce fuel consumption. Keeping you entertained, meanwhile, is a six-speaker stereo system and AUX and USB inputs, which enable you to stream music from other devices. The i30 also offers Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free communication on the go.
The i30 comes with a maximum five-star crash-test rating, as awarded by Euro NCAP. Driver aids include Autonomous Emergency Braking System, which monitors vehicular activity ahead, applying maximum braking pressure whenever a potential collision is detected.
