New Hyundai ix20

The Hyundai ix20 is a supermini that puts the emphasis on ‘super’, with even more room inside than is offered by the already spacious i20. This handsome hatchback also delivers a comfortable ride and comes very well equipped as standard.

Design

The well-built ix20 sports a gently rising window line which, in combination with a dipping bonnet, provides the car with its purposeful stance. This automobile’s compact dimensions make it ideal for driving around town and slotting into tight parking spaces. Thanks to a five-door body, entering and exiting the vehicle is as easy as can be for rear-seat passengers too.

Head and legroom are generous inside, ensuring that five adults can be comfortably accommodated. The ix20 features a noteworthy 440-litre boot space, which beats those offered by the majority of direct rivals. With 60/40 split-folding rear seats dropped, cargo capacity increases to an impressive 1,486 litres.

Engines and performance

The ix20 is installed with a 1.6-litre 123bhp petrol engine that is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, but can be specified with automatic transmission, if you prefer. This four-cylinder unit manages up to 37.1mpg and produces CO2 emissions from 149g/km.

Technology

A six-speaker stereo system provides audio entertainment whenever you want it, while USB and AUX connectors allow you to charge and play your compatible media devices. Bluetooth connectivity features, too, with voice-recognition technology that enables you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes fixed on the way ahead.

The ix20 comes with a maximum five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and a host of protective features. Included are a suite of airbags, and ISOFIX child seat attachments in the rear compartment. Driver aids include Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System and Hill-start Assist, the latter preventing the car from rolling uncontrollably whenever the engine is started on a slope.
