New Hyundai KONA EV

The Hyundai KONA Electric has been awarded Car of the Year for 2019 (technology category) by What Car? Magazine – and with good reason. Smart, efficient and safe, it checks all the boxes for family motoring.

The handsome KONA Electric rides on 17-inch alloy wheels as standard and is crowned with roof rails that provide several load-bearing options. If you need to transport a pair of bikes or surfing equipment, for example, the KONA has you covered. Inside, there’s room for five people, and with 60/40 split-folding rear seats flipped, the vehicle’s 334-litre boot space soon increases to 1,116 litres.

Engines & Performance

The KONA is installed with an electric 64 KWh battery that offers a power output of 204PS. This delivers a nippy 0-62mph in approximately 7.9 seconds and produces zero CO2 emissions. The KONA offers a driving range of 279 miles, which is greater than can be delivered by any other electric automobile, according to tests carried out by What Car? Conveniently, the battery can be charged in an emergency via a standard mains source, by a 7KW home charger which currently benefits from a government grant and at any one of thousands of charging stations located around the UK.

The KONA Electric offers a number of innovations depending on the trim you select. For example, you can schedule the vehicle to pre-heat so it’s cosy as soon as you step inside, or access key performance information without taking your eyes off the road thanks to the head-up display.

The model’s solid construction and range of safety equipment contribute to its five-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating. Hyundai SmartSense incorporates a range of features such as Smart Cruise Control and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to ensure you, your passengers and pedestrians are kept protected.

Hyundai KONA Electric driving technology

The carefully matched components of the electric powertrain have been engineered to provide excellent driving characteristics and a practical everyday driving range. KONA Electric’s completely new platform was designed with an electric powertrain in mind. This enables the space-saving integration of the battery packs without compromising passenger or cargo room.
Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) lectric cars are close to silent. While this helps reduces road noise, contributing to more pleasant, liveable cities, it can also present a possible hazard to pedestrians, who tend to take the sound of silence as an all-clear to cross the road. That’s why the KONA Electric is equipped with a melodic driving sound, announcing its presence to pedestrians, cyclists and the blind.
Charging KONA Electric has plug types to suit your grid connection at home, or the types of fast-charging stations you have access to.
