In the new Kia Soul EV, quirky design meets engineering innovation to produce one of the most distinctive cars on the road. With its striking looks and zero-emissions powertrain, it’s a model that dares you to be different.
Design
Fans of the original Kia Soul will know it for its boxy shape that fuses style with functionality. The new Soul EV keeps this premise, but adds details that mark it out as an electric vehicle. The lightweight alloy wheels, for example, have their own unique design, and the covered grille hides AC and DC charging points. Meanwhile, a selection of two-tone body colours ensures it holds the attention.
Inside is an environment befitting
an electric model. The high-tech digital instrument cluster displays all the
essential vehicle information with at-a-glance clarity, while the engine is
started at the touch of a button thanks to the Smart Keyless Entry System. Yet
with space to seat four adults and carry 281 litres of luggage too, it ensures
there’s substance to the design.
Being a fully electric vehicle, the Kia Soul EV is powered by a Three Phase AC Synchron motor with a maximum output of 81.4kW. Alongside the battery, this delivers a range of up to 155 miles, making it perfect for local driving and even the odd outing further afield. Charging to 80% from a 50kW DC power supply takes as little as 33 minutes, meaning you can top up easily on the go.
Technology and safety
Modern drivers demand advanced technology, and the Kia Soul EV doesn’t hold back. There’s an eight-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system as standard, as well as dual zone air conditioning, DAB radio, heated front seats and a reversing camera system.
Safety comes in the form of six airbags, Electronic Stability Control and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. There’s also Virtual Engine Sound, which generates a noise at low speeds to alert pedestrians to your presence.
